My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Book 10 of my Goodreads Reading Challenge 2018
WOW what can I say but I absolutley love this detective series, for me they are real pages turners and book 3 was no exception.
The opening line hooked me and I needed to read on
Lily’s life was nearly over, it was just that she didn’t know it yet.
I love how we get to read the thoughts of the killer, see things through their eyes so to speak and it is pretty scary.
‘Killing was hard work. Anyone who believed a human being perished in the few seconds portrayed in TV crime dramas was an idiot. Death, more often than not, was a slow striptease of a show.’
Life in the station is never slow, the hot seat now being taken by newly promoted Detective Chief Inspector Ava Turner who finds she is distancing herself from the colleagues she worked so closely with. Yet now she feels she is not quite ready to reach out for the skies, and mix with the higher ranks either.
Cases are coming in and the team are on top of things it looks at first like they may have an easy ride with possible deaths by misadventure or suicide? Until somthing just doesn’t seem to fit and more investigations are carried out. All our old favourite characters from the earlier books are here with a few added extras.
Lots of twists and turns in all cases, and it is looking like there may be some real heavy gangsters back on the streets of Edinburgh. Ava you can see is just going to throw herself right into the thick of things without heeding anyone’s warnings. Stupid woman you just want to shake her sometimes.
LOVED the book highly recommended but would also recommend you read Book 1 & 2 first.
